Cedwyn moved on from thinking of the journey to what lay ahead, taking in the view of Beridizou with its sandstone houses and dusty streets. They were moving more quickly now that the horses had a sturdy footing. They turned another corner, to be joined by a group of mounted guards dressed in fine silken livery, their horses clad in silver bridles, their saddle pads embroidered in bright colours. The guards paused momentarily, looking at them almost suspiciously, the commander resting his eyes on Cedwyn. He dismounted and bowed low before her.
“Welcome, Princess of Tylaclin, Protector of the Norodon Forest, new Queen of Beridizou. His Majesty King Aurelius is expecting you.”
Cedwyn smiled tiredly at the man “Thank you. I am afraid my guide does not know the way from here . . .”
He gestured extravagantly with his arm and whistled twice, ordering his men to accompany the rest of Cedwyn’s train.
“This way. It’s not far now.”
The guard led Cedwyn’s horse up the gentle stone slope in front of them. The sweeping gardens filled with exotic plants, palms and baobab trees on either side of them, fell away into the burning sunset behind them. As they rose higher above the city’s long shadows, the general hubbub, its clangs and shouts died to a distant murmur. They finally came to a halt in front of the palace. A young man was leaning lightly on the stone balustrade of the steps above them. He gazed down at them, his face serious. The guard gently rested a hand on Cedwyn’s horse and, noticing his master’s gaze, looked down at the ground. The young man at the top of the steps paused for a moment longer before wandering down slowly, never taking his eyes off Cedwyn. Cedwyn looked back, she supposed that he was her future husband. He did have a nice pair of blue eyes she thought, and not too bad a dress sense. He was wearing a loose white shirt under a long finely embroidered sleeveless coat, tied at the waist with a red silk sash. He reached her, his serious face breaking into a warm smile, his arms outstretched in welcome.
Just a quick snippet, found some time to do some editing and writing again, I know this isnt the most exciting passage however I am publishing this as a means of giving a point of reference to the work I am doing at the moment. My intention is too create a series of concept drawings from this and then build it up into a full blown model whether I will get there or not Is a different matter. Oh well we will see how it goes.
Below is a link to the first drawing/painting I have done for this project
